2011 Club Competitions
C Pearce Trophy April 17th
28 members competed for the C Pearce Trophy on April 17th. The weather was perfect for the competition, sunny, dry with a gentle breeze.
The finalists were Jill Fisher and Matthew Birch

versus Pat Burton and Len Lockwood, with Pat and Len eventually winning the trophy.
Mulroy Trophy - Sunday 8th. May
24 members competed for the Mulroy trophy. The weather was again kind to us, warm and cloudy, but the rain stayed away.
Everyone enjoyed the day thanks to the friendly sportsmanship, the excellent food, thanks mainly to the ladies, and the good organisation of Gerald and Hilary.
It was good to see so many new members taking part.

The Ladies Singles was one of the smaller competitions, with only 13 entries. The finalists were Pat Kempster and Shirley Hitching, with Pat coming out as eventual winner, the opposite result to last year.
Veterans Doubles 19th June 2011
A well supported event with 20 entries . At the end of the day Shirley Hitchings and Derek Bates played Kath Lockwood and Dennis Walsh, with the winners Shirley and Derek picking up the trophy.

Seniors' Shield Friday 27th May
We must be doing something right, the forecast rain stayed away for the Seniors Shield competition, although the day remained grey with a chilly wind to start, but

The finalists were last year's winner Dennis Postlethwaite and Brian Jones.
After a close final Dennis was eventually pipped to the trophy by Brian,congratulations.
Veterans Singles Shield - 31st July
Twenty Four competitors took part, with the initial games being played as round Robins amongst 6 players in four groups, giving semi-finals and a final.
The semi-finalists were Brenda Clarke playing Dennis Walsh and Len lockwood playing Alan Thickett.
The final was played between Dennis and Len, with Dennis eventually coming out as a very worthy winner.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The weather was dry, warm with sunny hot spells in the afternoon. The green got faster as the day wore on making the later matches and finals tricky, especially if the jack was near the edge. Thanks to the organisers, Margaret and Dennis, Louise for organising the raffle and the ladies for again providing us with an excellent lunch.
Another fine day and a good competition, with 22 entries in this mixed doubles contest.
In the final Shirley Hitchings and Gerald Horsfield played Pat Postlethwaite and Brian Jones, with Shirley and Gerald coming out on top. This was Shirley’s second trophy of the season.
Hasnip Shield ( Men's Singles ) 4th September. Although there was a disappointing turnout from the men, a very good day was had by both competitors and spectators.
The day started with rain and drizzle but spirits were not dampened and after lunch the sun came out.
The finalists were Terry McGuigan and Brian Jones and after a close game Brian came out as eventual winner.

The Turkey Trot Sunday September 18th.
32 club members entered the final club competition of the year, the Turkey Trot, resulting in 16 couples, chosen by draw” lining up” for the start,
The day again started warm and dry without a cloud in the sky and although storm clouds threatened later, the rain held off until the afternoon. When intermittent heavy showers finally came, they made play more interesting, but in no way dampened spirits.

Once again the raffle, organised by Louise Bates, added to the day’s enjoyment, not to mention to club funds.Thanks to Dennis and Pat Postlethwaite for organising the day’s activities.
After the initial round-robin games, the play-off came down to Pat Postlethwaite and Keith Bramham playing June Thicket and Alan Dransfield for 3rd and 4th prizes with Brenda Clarke and Jack Hammerton playing Jill Fisher and Terry McGuigan to decide 1st and 2nd prizes.
Jill and Terry came out as the Turkey Trot winners.
